Where is all the Determinism?
Apologists explaining away Reality
“Nature shall be the visible spirit, and spirit, invisible nature.”
― Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling
We have found ourselves in an era of technological prowess and hyper-materialism with no end in sight for the breakneck speed of developments in structures, transportation, education, literacy, media, science, homeopathy, agriculture; the list is vast for which we have evolved in this new epoch. We have never had more opportunities and paradoxically been more constricted. As the aggregate finds themselves in this technocratic globalist Bureaucracy marching mass populations towards “their” Neo-Marxist utopic visions that would make an Orwell or Huxley blush with envy in the execution of the scale of collective servitude.
A truly disturbing trend resurfacing as in every age and generation is the inculcation of materialist notions of determinism laying the claim that conscious beings in the world are navigating their existences blind and with no free will. Many people are anti-philosophical and have completely abandoned any semblance of psychological insight, and would scarcely ever contemplate this deception as it would not likely have any significance or relevance in their daily affairs. Sadly this is a battle that is being won by the anti-conceptual brigade of high priests of the halls of academia and the bankrupt religion of Scientism. We have abnegated our responsibility to honor the true Self undergirding our persona. As a result we have disregarded our potentials to become the driving force of the act of creation of this reality.
The absence of thought or introspection relating to matters of this philosophical quandary are only the beginning of the problem. The grasping of abstract concepts and trusting your discernment are tools which must be honed and worked over periods of time. The notion that the will of a human being has no outlet or creative potential or an ability to react to a desire or imaginative capacity is an abject mockery of human existence. If we had no free will whatsoever how would we have ever developed any reason, logic, language, thought, music, art or tools? The level of absurdity can reach staggering heights. And yet, we have many minds which are becoming lost in the mysterium of confusing paradigms which are leaving out the complexity and profundity of our consciousness and its all encompassing connection to our reality.
Where does one even begin in attempting to explain the existence of a human will and an ability to create your own reality and contribute to existence? We are currently living in a time where the internet is a vast database of billions of websites with a plethora of information on virtually any topic imaginable. Unfortunately, we have to navigate through an onslaught of competing paradigms, (mis-dis)-information, gatekeepers, and many insights with partial understandings mixed with emotional attachments to belief systems and theoretical perspectives. There is certainly no easy path to wisdom and spiritual enlightenment without the use of hard work mixed with a curiosity. Coupled with an ability to utilize an apophatic process of negating the knowledge that doesn’t fit and challenging yourself to continue eliminating the untrue. Uncovering principles, facts, absolutes and natural laws that can stand up to scrutiny and then create a synthesis of ideas into a coherent world view. A journey, sadly not too many will entertain.
How are we ever to stumble upon the mysterious code of explanatory synthesis to give consciousness and all of its gifts of awareness and conceptual complexities a profound definition? This axiom of life requires the perceiver of existence to trust this relational observer in all of its daily experiences of five sense reality and the thoughts, actions and emotions derived from the conscious faculties. Difficult as it may be to pin down a definition of consciousness, Robert Lanza M.D. in his book ‘The Grand Biocentric Design’ states: “it is generally agreed to mean the state of being aware, of perceiving things, of having feelings, of wakefulness, of possessing experiences.” It seems to me that the ‘Feeling’ one experiences resulting from the subjectivity of engaging with reality can have variagated parameters of defining characteristics. The Philosopher David Chalmers postulated the ‘Hard problem’ of consciousness; “even when we have explained the performance of all the cognitive and behavioral functions in the vicinity of experience—perceptual discrimination, categorization, internal access, verbal report—there may still remain a further unanswered question: Why is the performance of these functions accompanied by experience?” It is considered ‘Hard’ because of the inherent contradicitons of not being able to explain consciousness in terms of mechanisms; experience is always unaccounted for. The emphatic problem that remains subjectively relevant is the independent observer and their personal unique and individual ‘felt experience’ that is arguably idiosyncratic and isolated. So, we can see how there would be a tendency to want to oversimplify and explain away a phenemonon that generates such an amorphous quality.
The possession of awareness could very well be the critical factor in the purpose and determination of one’s consciousness to maintaining focus and attention. It is very easy to wander and lose your volitional control over your time and attention of this precious aspect of mind. “I never do anything I don't want to do. Nor does anyone, but in my case I am always aware of it.” ― Robert Heinlein The implication of choice in the matter should always be intimated when one decides not to partake in an activity, event, or request of any kind. This would also imply that one’s consciousness has an ability to decidely become motivated and choose participation in any manner of activities that would be offered externally or from within as a goal, pursuit, or desire which requires effort of mind, body and soul. Why does anyone choose to do anything? It is rather frustrating to scour the internet and recognize the amount of perceived scholars and popular personalities that are promoting the notion of free will as an illusion and lack of conscious agency devoid of conceptuality. This leads one to question, ‘If free will has no determining results in one’s life and consequences, how is it that you wound up becoming a Ph.D recipient philosophizing about life and existential skepticism?’
It is as though there is an organized corporate campaign in our current zeitgeist that is being promulgated to delude masses of people of their innate capacities of the most precious gift and quality of human existence. How could such an attack on consciousness become such an effective psychological operation on a global scale? The misplaced trust in the entire institutionalized system encompassing all aspects of societal control and acculturation have indubitably run amok. This is extremely problematic especially in such a time that the Western world has been generationally undermined and subverted with population replacement and has lost its cultural moorings and collective moral integrity.
The philosophical foundations of such an argument has gone on since time immemorial and has been one that has perplexed many eminent philosophers and layman alike with clearly no satisfactory coherent finality. So, we must delve back into the German Romantics and Idealists of the late 18th and early 19th Centuries to glean the works of some of the most misinterpreted and suppressed thinkers that have offered the most cogent explanations. Friedrich Schelling was attempting to answer the roadblock that Immanuel Kant had erected of the (Noumenal) which posits one to only have inferences to the extent to which the human rational faculties can reach the object of ‘things-in-themselves’ directly. This unknowable quality and uncertainty was not acceptable and was the raison d'être of Schellings undertaking and purpose. Schelling would delineate the split between Nature and Man, as Necessity versus Freedom. So in man’s essence would lie Freedom in all its glory and certitude. A human being comes to know themselves through the interactivity and relationship with nature, which serves as guide, silent instructor and moral authority. By way of the sublime and supernal quality of nature, we have come to know ourselves through the self conversation which is a result of Spirit’s embodiment in the natural world. The reality of our consciousness being encompassed and within a body which is agreeably part of the natural world, we can surmise that Nature also has its own unique (Will), identity, existence and ultimately consciousness that relates to the Being simultaneously. If the aggregate of humanity has collectively failed to recognize this ontological fact, then it may give rise to explaining how and why our species has managed to denigrate and exploit nature and ecology to the point of utter insanity and destruction.
Any individual has the ability to distinguish times when they had an immense amount of focus for tasks, study, or conversing with a friend or family member. Conversely, they may also admit many instances where their conscious awareness, focus and attention was wavering and they were vaguely able to comprehend study or complete a task with lucidity. Clearly we have the ability to constellate our attention and bring our consciousness into maximum states of awareness and perspicacity. What is the difference between the two states described above? The ability of the being to raise their level of focus to the conceptual level, rather than remaining at the automatic sensory perceptual level. To achieve the status of conceptuality, one must eclipse the mental passivity stage and sustain the effort required to engage the mind in the thoughts for crystallizing the concepts with clarity. If this sounds a lot like work, you would be absolutely correct. The preservation of such effort accompanied by the desire to complete a task or conquer the human natural tendency to remain passive or evasive is truly momentous.
If the notion of free will is relegated to (the ability to not have done otherwise), we have truly descended to the level of abandoning purpose, meaning, and human potential. The contemporary stance on whether any of your choice point realities on the basis of philosophical, psychological, neurochemical, biological, or evolutionary criterion; are simply denied and voided any conscious recognition or volition. Neuroscientists will articulate endless streams of consciousness diatribes and literature that will leave a listener or interviewer perplexed with the avoidance of the reality of our world and the awareness of the conscious particpants’ experiences. The mechanistic deterministic speech play that attempts to invalidate the inherent axiomatic presence of a volitional consciousness, is extremely disingenuous and damaging. Quite simply, the struggle for existence on a daily basis requires focus, determination, effort, strength of will, necessity, self-initiated motion, intention and many other drivers of man’s consciousness. How can a man who is homeless, destitute, lacking resources and in despair carry on every day? His or her willingness to dig deep within their inner most drives to will their action into existence and make choices, these actions are only possible because the individual chose not to give in, give up, or quit on themselves.
The entire doctrine of deterministic thought with the debasement of consciousness, denying the fundamental underpinning of our reality would be pernicious at best and sociologically malevolent at worst. Scientific materialist philosophy dogmatically retains its reductionist view on the mind being confined to the matter of the neocortical brain. This would mean we can only concretize the world of images, ideas, concepts, imagination, or experience within the architecture of electrical synaptic impulses contained in the hemispheres of your brain and associated nerve cells. The reality of this phenomenal organ of complexity should be considered nothing short of a miracle of Universal design. However, this brain matter cannot account for my ability to discern a bumblebee from a moth, or account for my entrainment and capability to distinguish what lane I must drive in, at what optimal speed, and at which moment I must tap the brakes to avoid running the stop light which is fast approaching my reality.
Much of the talking points in support of fate or deterministic thought have their roots in a doctrine that deem the individual to be at the whim of external and material forces which form the character, thoughts, actions and ultimately the direction of events in the lives of all humans. The fatuousness that an individual who has been entrained with the notion that they have no free will and that their lives are bereft of meaning; could this ultimately be the driving force of despair in our contemporary culture? How can a young mind be convinced that their subjective experience is unable to be validated or has created a paradoxical impasse? Surely an individual with discernment and a volitional aspect of consciousness can become a cognizant participant creating mental desires and actions that lead them to knowledge and experience. The visionary Russian-American Philosopher Ayn Rand made it clear that “life is a process of self-sustaining and self-generated action, it is only the concept of Life that makes the concept of Value possible. It is only to a living entity that things can be good or evil.” She would never kowtow and mince words or definitions when it came to core principles and moral authenticity. She would very much disdain the human being who was the proverbial fence sitter on issues relating to morality. Man in his essence has the ability to avoid deep thought and waiver on the most important of all virtues; A confident code of values that direct his actions among his fellow man. Without this solid foundation of a moral compass that respects the life and property of similar men of character, value and ethical structure; we would become devoid of conscience and have no empathy or cultural moorings to depend upon.
Simply as a thought experiment someone could think back upon their own unique life and path to find many instances where a choice was made that diverged and likely forged them into their present Self. Are we really supposed to consider that our historical conscious ego made no deliberate impact on personal development and achievement? The English Theoretical Physicist, Stephen Hawking, regarded by many to be one of the most prescient and scientifically endowed minds in modern time had on occasion made some statements that could help us formulate some notions on the freedom of the will. In one quote, he states “There’s no way to remove the observer -(us)- from our perceptions of the world… the past, like the future, is indefinite and exists only as a spectrum of possibilities.” Given time to truly think of the profundity that can arise from this statement, we first must consider the importance of the Self, The Individual, Ego-Consciousness, Spirit, Elan Vital, The Omega Point, Act Of Creation, God, Essence in the authorship of the universe, life, existence, creation, future-present-past, and reality. The recognition of the individual mind, forming perceptions that clearly have progressed to conceptions of ideas, thoughts, insights and patterns. All of which have contributed to the collective consciousness forming languages, science, art, music, ideology, religion, paradigms, society, infrastructure, culture and law. It is impossible to conceive that the human mind has no volitional will, if we as a species have managed to subdue nature and utilize creative potential to harness material matter and establish civil society and all of its amenities. The admission of the immeasurable vastness of the infinite possibilities of the future, which is only brought into existence by the thoughts, emotions, and actions of conscious beings. Utilizing their intellect to use their voice for inspiration, influence and ideas that will manifest at some future reality. We quite literally have the power to change the present moment with awareness and shift a paradigm and worldview to correlate to the future change we wish to manifest.
One of the most illustrative examples of how we can witness our collective psychic diremption and confusion in regard to free will, would be to use the premise of correctional institutions as a means for rehabilitation. Most reasonable thinking people who would support a criminal justice system would also presume that the incarcerated individual having that time to reconcile and rehabilitate could conceivably generate thoughts and actions to modify behaviour and to ultimately be reintegrated into society. Clearly that human being made a series of bad choices with negative repurcussions and paid the price with time spent and counsel to assist in hopefully working to become a morally upstanding individual. They also have the choice to act in accordance with their vicious cycle and amoral tendencies ad infinitum, resulting in recidivism and perpetual degeneracy of delinquency. So choice is involved after all, or at the very least presumed in this institution. Despite the eggregious nature of this often abused and predatory form of rehabilitation, the concept of a fair, and just civil society that is expected to provide a form of societal retribution and detterance for future recidivism. The entire concept of incapacitation and the underlying expectation for rehabilitation is centered around the concept of free will and a volitional choice to become a better human being who may receive eventual communal acceptance.
The concept of free will of course includes the word free, which implies some sort of freedom. Even if we are to agree that all participants in a society have a modicum of freedom socially, politically, economically, intellectually, emotionally; we still must consider the psychological temperment that originates with each individual and ultimately collectivizes into a crowd consciousness fundamentally. Freedom of man and the individual historically was rarely if ever a potentiality. Man had to endure centuries old despotic reigns of autocratic, monarchic, and theocratic rulers who would mercilessly enslave and dominate all social classes by any means necessary. What exactly would be able to explain how humanity could evolve past this eventuality and begin to extricate themselves from the grips of despotism and autocracy? Of course the human will must have been involved in the generation and recognition of a conception of freedom to topple the prestigious mind contagion that allowed whole populations to be dominated, enslaved and controlled by personages that are directing world affairs through subversive means and organizations of a global nature. Although the human condition has leaned towards garnering freedom and has had many historical examples of dissent and small victories, it has always been the vast minority that managed the courageous acts and pursued a semblance of freedom socio-politically. Until we consider the psychological state of the average human who has always had to battle with meaning and understanding their place in a world of complexities and historical progressions, we will likely only be analyzing surface level trivialities. Ultimately, each individual is at the mercy of their deeply rooted mental conflicts, logjams, deceptions, illogicalities, hysterics and neuroses, which have root causal factors in the humans original anxiety and alienation in a world of historical hostilities and trauma at the microcosmic and macrocosmic level.
The fundamental aspect that is controlling individual consciousness and thereby extrapolated to the civilizational level of group dynamics and crowd reactivity is the underlying Fear Mechanism which has been utilized in active and passive psyches since time immemorial. This foundation has been imprinted on the collective unconscious which can be disturbed using time tested methodologies for thousands of years. The psyche of humanity with its most obvious split on the hemispherical level, has even orthodox scholars and intelligentsia recognizing the perils of the control of humanity with its most basic primordial drives, convictions and inner conflicts and contradictions as its driving force within our character structures. There are literally so many factors that must be considered when attempting to personify the brains capacities and how they inform and influence the being in which they inhabit. The human mind is literally so vast a nueral network and has so many synaptic pathways & connections that have sequential patterns corresponding to the many hundreds of thousands of potential networks of simulataneous integrations. It can hardly be conceived at a cursory glance. How is it that detractors and otherwise intelligent people who have clearly dedicated their lives to the cognitive abilities to speak with such fervour and clarity on topics of the most highly organized organic entity of the neocortical brain be so disingenuous? We have become so erudite and arrogant to have somehow reduced and compared ourselves to the silicon computer chipsets that we ironically have managed to design, program and produce through ingenuity, resourcefulness and mental acumen , which illustrates the institutional absurdity on an monumental scale. How did Bill Nye the Science guy become the household name in the field of Scientism? Clearly he made a series of choices and personal paths with dedication, full consciousness and had many goals and obstacles to achieve and defeat along his journey to success.
Independent participants in the world are in a unique position to discover that the age old debate on this freedom of the will versus fate or deteminism should be carefully considered. There are of course aspects of the human being that have been regulated and are autonomic. The sympathetic and parasympathetic systems are uniquely differentiated complimentary systems that are able to manage and regulate the bodies needs to maintain homeostasis. There very existence and capability to monitor and maintain regularity of bodily functions from the circulatory, digestive, urinary, respiratory, metabolic, temperature regulation, sexual response, hormonal, the rest & digest - fight & flight response mechanisms. None of which your conscious mind has any relevant control over, your body has managed to include the emergent systems that are highly organized and work with pristine internal programming for stimulus response in the natural world. All we have to do is to continue to feed our body with the external proper food, water, supplementation, exercise, proper rest and recovery to allow our body to operate these important hierarchical systems of our existence efficiently. These Autonomic systems are wonderful examples of some of the deterministic aspects of human existence, but ultimately have their place in nature which allowed the body to evolve and manage the chemistry and hormonal balance for the systems to run optimally in the background. These systems represent the biological equivalent of the free Being with a level of autonomy and sovereignty that can self sustain and govern its actions and life perpetually.
To really come to the fundamental grips of what the actual died in the flesh scientific materialists believe regarding humanity lacking free will, is like untying a gordian knot. One must assiduously dissect their entire worldview and the mechanistic physicality of all matter in the world including the brain that is simply regarded as material.the unexplained noumenous epiphenemonon of consciousness and the minds innumerable capacities, pretentiously being ignored as generic by-product’s of brain matter neocortical processes. The dogma of scientific materialism has been a creed of beliefs that have been basically accepted for centuries by what Rupert Sheldrake would refer to as an intellectual osmosis, unquestioned and are essentially the holy writ of indisputable tenets. In the field of neuroscience it has been accepted that the mathematical and physical laws that are applied to all forms of electrical and chemical processes in essence have determined predicatability in behaviour of particles, atoms and therefore to the Being himself. There would be no internal (I-Subjective) experiential decision making personal choices. So, let’s assume that living in this corporatist-late stage capitalism where we have 150 different candy bars, 50 different chemically simulated flavors of potato chips and 100 different tropically named caffeine laden energy drinks, it is simply a moot point, you have zero choice in which one is your preference and it was a result of antecedent forces acting upon your docile-servile brain. To say nothing of being the one bloak you know who has the will power to not be enslaved to the psuedo-legal drug markets, nicotine, alcohol and opioid infestations that sytematically are destroying our minds, bodies and cultures.
Perhaps we are the lumbering robots with the genetically programmed brain cpu metaphor that a Richard Dawkin’s would like you to believe. How frequently do we actually witness someone who has managed to not become utterly enculturated and entrained with the ludicrously infantile media and pop culture iconography? The resounding authoritative aura of the words, memes, symbols, colors and repetitive psychotronic weaponry that works on the minds of masses daily to instill messages, beliefs and direct the human collective consciousness and public opinion. As Edward Bernays, the father of public relations and adherent of weaponized propaganda states: “The conscious and intelligent manipulation of organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in a democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power in our country.” So there it is in plain English from an eminent psychologist that has clearly articulated that the minds of the masses are like Silly Putty, to be molded in whatever form necessary to have whole populations placate to their masters who have your psychological complexes and proclivities at their beck and call. By no stretch of the human imagination am I convincing anyone of blanket freedom, especially psychologically, philosophically, or politically. We are most certainly as many mystics from the past and present have described: in a war against consciousness, which includes probably most importantly at the intellectual academe level where the ideas and ideology have been hardened and encompass virtually every aspect of human life in an organized institutionalized compartmentalized structure. How does the average commoner ever hope to be a dissenter in a system that is all pervasive and controls his life within a framework of totalism? It is the work of all who have the eyes to see, the conceptual mind working in harmony with nature and who have a deep antipathy to the obvious lies of the systems of oppression that work upon keeping you in doubt that individual change is possible, or that your conscious agency and volition are somehow not axiomatic. Clearly we must utlilze our perceptions, conscious faculties, and knowledge gained from research and insight even if we are to attempt to claim we are devoid of any will of subjectivity, right?
There can never be a last word on this or any topic worth its salt, I will leave this article with you and welcome any commentary or questions. I truly felt this one needed to be in the public square and considered, as it has been one of those existential questions which have never been adequately explained or debated frequently enough to foster the healthy skepticism fate deserves.

Brilliant. Could you elaborate on how we honor the 'true Self' amid pervasive determinism?
